I can't believe that I haven't posted in a year! But then, I kinda end up feeling like I'm talking to myself when I post anyway so that's not too surprising. I guess it's kinda amazing, because I know that the election today will have changed the world, but somehow it doesn't feel real. I don't know what's going to happen from now on, but it remains to be seen how bad it's going to get. I'm a little scared. I know I'm not the smartest girl on the face of the earth and if things get really bad, I don't know what's going to happen to me. I'm probably being melodramatic, but I have a feeling that America and the world are going to be going to hell in a handbasket and I'll be stuck along for the ride...

Just to announce to the entire world, I NOW OWN MY CAR!!!!! I'm so excited! I actually achieved my goal of not getting it in a wreck before I had it paid off. Now all I have to do is keep it in good working condition for a while... In this sort of town, wish me luck... I'll probably need it!

I wonder what it says about me, and my social life, that I've now seen the third Pirates of the Caribbean movie for the fourth time in less than 72 hours. I haven't had that much fun in months!!!! I love that series and the third one was just as good as the first two. I didn't really like the ending since I was hoping for something a bit happier than what actually happened, but I also like tragety and fanfiction is more than making up for the lack. I feel a little guilty since I was planning on writing more of The Guardian this weekend, but I can't think of anything other than the ruggedly gorgeous Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) so rather than trying to write, I'm haunting (no pun intended) the FFnet Pirates page and hitting refresh every so often in hopes of a new one shot worth reading. Well, I'm back to the world of Pirates and curses! |

After some reflection, and time to get over a truly hellish week at work, I've decided that the third review was not nearly as insulting as it looked at first glance. Somekindasuperstar, if you are reading this, I really apologize. I never should have ranted like that in my last posting. Already being upset isn't an excuse, but it is an explanation. It did make me take a look at my writing and it unfortunately wasn't a very flattering look. I knew that my first few chapters (and some of my later ones) aren't very good. They aren't really bad, but they aren't the greatest either. Fixing them will have to wait until the story is done, though. I have enough trouble keeping my plot together without going back and fiddling with things. Most of my problem is a lack of experience. I never really wrote fictional stories in school or for fun. (What little fiction I did write was truly terrible. I found one of my old original stories and it was enough to make my eyes bleed.) Well, hopefully after the holidays are over, I'll be able to look on my story with a fresh (or at least not frazzled) perspective, and we shall see what comes of that.

You know, the first review I got that told me that my fanfiction character, Leona, was a Mary-Sue was kinda amusing. It was a challenge to go and discuss it with the reviewer and see why they thought the way they did, and to show them that I did not agree and then show them why. The second review was a bit insulting, mostly because they didn't even bother to finish reading the story before condemming it as a Sue-Fic. The review had inaccurate information and then, when I pointed out in a rather polite reply that their information was faulty, they threw a screaming Me-Me fit and seemed offended that I had not taken their "criticism" lying down. Frankly, I can't see who gave the "reviewer" the right to judge if a character is a Sue or not. If you are going to use bad information in your critique then don't be surprised if you're called upon to put your money where your mouth is. The third one was a bit much. The camel's back isn't broken, but I'm seeing hairline fractures. I'll admit that my confidence in my writing is getting pretty shaky. Again, they haven't finished the story and I'm a little upset at that. Two reviews in the space of four days that are positively loaded with "constructive criticism" is a bit much, and I'm wondering if they might be right. I know that I'm not the world's greatest author. I know that my characterization needs a little work. But, I'm also trying to stay true to the style of writing that Lewis used, and frankly, his characters are canon Sues. I'm sick of defending my style of writing to people who aren't even willing to see where I'm taking the story before telling me that it sucks. I'm not going to give up and not finish "The Guardian". One thing I hate most as a reader is an author who just gives up and leaves a story half-finished. But, I'm not sure if I want to write any other stories. I'm a person who believes that if you can't do something right, you shouldn't do it at all. If all I can do is write Mary-Sues, then why should I write in the first place?

One of my cats, Obi-Wan, was put down about two weeks ago. He had a bad urinary problem and the meds weren't helping. It was sad but we still had to have him killed. Then to add insult to injury, we didn't have a place to bury him yet, so we put him in the big freezer until tonight. It makes me very sad, but I know that he's happier now. Bye-bye Obi-bug, I'll never forget you...
